Power

How do we define power? 

Power can be understood as the ability to have influence over something or others. There are various types of power though we shift the capacity to influence between social agents. 

Our understandings of power, stems from the piece "The Bases of Social Power", written by John R. French, Jr. and Bertman Raven. In this article, French and Raven list five common bases of power. Click the tab named Let's try to understand the different forms of power to learn more. This text was essential in understanding the faces power takes on at Macalester and how it can be transformed to use as a collective tool. 

For the FORMULA...

This part of the formula focuses on the entities of power within the ecosystem of focus. Think of sources of power in that operate in opposition to the goal/aim of the collective. This could be an individual, an institution, an entity within the institution.
